Activity-Day on
Ireland
In the international European
sense students participating in the Comenius project worked individually out the
topic of Ireland.
Students learned through
didactic activities about traditions, folklore, history and geography. They
discovered the uses, songs, dances and food.

In the
first form the children extended their English faculty of speech energetically
supported by their native speaker.
Students of
the second class expanded their knowledge of Ireland, the Shannon, Ireland’s
main river and St. Patrick’s Day.
Children of
the fourth class learned about the Vikings and the history of Ireland too.

After the
period of individual learning in classes there was a common Ireland day for all
students participating in the project:
At the
beginning the students convened, heard the national anthem of Ireland and the
European anthem, headmistress Mrs. König spoke to them in the festively
decorated gym.
Afterwards
the students presented their works done on Ireland and reported their knowledge.

In many
different stations the children creatively worked on the topic of Ireland.
Collages
were produced, Irish dances and songs were learned and stories of Ireland were
told.
The
children made home-baked bread acting on a traditional Irish recipe and learned
about the Vikings. They saw an instructive film about Ireland and discussed it.
To close
the activity day the children met in the festively decorated gym again and
celebrated their community. They reported activities and interests to the others
and ate home-baked bread. Afterwards they sang Irish songs and enjoyed those
common experiences.

International networking education and learning broadens everyone’s horizons and
give pleasure. Those activities done in this European project carry the European
thoughts and ideas out.
